The Economics of Robotic Labor.

Ok, here is my new theory of robotic labor will work in the future:
Now you see, robots will probably be someday developed some company right? This company will try of course to sell the robots as servants to make money. Now my first theory about how the economics of robotic labor would work, is that the robot company would make a bunch of robots for another company and sell it to them where then the other company can fire all the human workers and replace them with robots without paying and there would be a lot of jobless people all of a sudden.
Then I realized: wait a minute, that wouldn't work, the robot company wouldn't just sell it to other companies they would sell it to everyone. So when the common average human gets a hold of it, a robotic servant programmed to do whatever they want- within legality of course- what would they do with it? Sure they could set it to do household chores and such but that doesn't seem to be the best way robots could be used.
What if, instead, the human goes to whoever you go to that interview workers for a company and says "ok, how about, I give you my robot and he does my work for me, but you still pay me for doing the work since its my robot that is doing it?"
and interview guy says "sure."

so then what if the robot gone to the factory every day, did the guy's work for him and he still got payed since he owned the robot that is doing it? the work is still done, guy still gets payed and feeds his family, and the robot still exists and does the work of the guy even better. and guess what, since the robot is doing his job for him and he is still getting payed, the guy who usually works suddenly has a lot of free time on his hands to spend with his family instead, and doing other constructive things.

however of course, this arrangement would be very culturally changing. our current workaholic culture would be blasted away for sure replaced by a culture that encourages getting a robot to get the money to pay the bills for you so you can spend more time with your family, however it might also cause a decay in practical skills, in jobs that no one wants to do, smart people would put their time into skills and things they want to do while still getting payed for the practical work, but if some disaster happened and robots were destroyed or something then it would be a stern wake up call for sure, artists, scientist and other dream jobs would still be occupied by humans of course so probably this arrangement would be done by all the people who don't want to go to their jobs, and of course poor people who cannot afford to get robots will still have to work with their own two hands so yea not perfect, but this will definitely be a big change in society, I don't think Isaac Asimov would have predicted this, of course he wasn't an economist.

really, all this boils down to is the best use of robots; people would use robots to do their jobs for them while using the ownership of the robot to still get payed, while spending their free time doing something else. Such a simple thing, yet so dramatically changing.

Why doesn't the company just buy their own robots as opposed to essentially renting them from others? There is no point in using the middle-man.

That is the exact problem Infinicosm addresses; the result of the companies simply buying the robots without the middle-men results in the 1500 years long war period because the governments only solution was to move the various homeless people out to other worlds were there were no robots and now there is a great divide between them and no one on the Outer Worlds likes robots or the Inner Worlds because of that.

If robots are ever to be viable there would need to be middle-men there to keep everything working, without them, lots of people lose their jobs, without any planets to move the homeless people to, society starts going into chaos and the end result is not pretty- either modern society takes a few steps back technologically or a new noble class appears that dominates everything with their robotic servants while all the people without them are basically slaves/peasants to them and the middle class would disappear since said middle class jobs are taken by the robots.

so yea, robots when they are invented, will be very, very tricky to implement into current society without causing some catastrophe.

There would have to be a law limiting one robot to a person for your system to work.

good! exactly! perfectly reasonable! I think that would actually work, Rubik I think we just solved the problem of Robotic Labor, thanks for showing me what I was missing there, of COURSE a law like that would have to be passed.......
